CLEVELAND, October 9, 2015 - Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, has provided a Parker Water Purification System to Water Missions International for deployment in Columbia, South Carolina, to ensure the availability of potable drinking water to the local population affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Joaquin.
The containerized Parker Water Purification System is being used to treat the water, which is then pumped into water bladder tanks and distributed around the city. Devastating floods as a result of Hurricane Joaquin have compromised the water supply, leaving almost 40,000 people without clean water.
“A week ago it was unthinkable that people in the U.S. could get sick from a lack of safe water, but that’s the situation now, and we’re doing everything we can to get water to the people who need it,” said George C. Greene, IV, PE President and Chief Operating Officer of Water Missions.
Parker’s Reverse Osmosis (RO) treatment systems are capable of providing upwards of 40,000 gallons each of clean drinking water per day. Parker water purifications systems were deployed in the U.S. following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Water Missions is a non-profit organization that responds to the urgent need for safe water around the world in developing countries and disaster situations, and has formed a strategic partnership with Parker for use of the water purification systems.
The Parker Hannifin Water Purification Systems convert seawater, brackish water or contaminated water into drinking water. The units come complete with a generator, supply pump and storage tanks to go into operation quickly. The standard 20 foot ISO shipping containers can be transported by road, rail or by sea. They are ready to deploy wherever temporary or emergency potable water is required. To learn more about Parker Water Purification Systems visit www.parker.com/watermakers
