Air Receiver

The air receiver is the storage device for air leaving the compressor. Here, the warm, saturated compressed air is cooled. This causes condensation, which adds liquid water into the compressed air system.

Some of the water vapour condenses into liquid water and is removed by a drain fitted to the compressor after-cooler. Additional condensation, however, produced as the air continues to be cooled, can promote corrosion in the form of rust, and microbiological growth, known as pipe scale.
